Hollow Wine Holders On Steps And Bits Of Metal

This 1989 penny has hollowed out wine jugs. Did this occur at the mint or post? The jug on the right on the steps is completely hollowed out and the one on the left is hollowed out and there are metal die "chips" on the steps that look like blobs. Also, next to FG is a small metal blob that may be a die chip?

looks to be the beginninbg of zinc rot. There must have been small spots where the zinc core was exposed and has started to corrode. Eventually all that will be left is a hollow shell.

Zinc corrosion. The jugs are the high spot on the reverse of the coin, when it wears through the copper they are usually the first thing to go.
