Firstly. apologies for the low quality photo, but I was wondering if someone could tell me how common spots (like the one shown here) are on older coins, like this Lincoln Cent. I am assuming this spot is a sulfur spot. Correct?

PS - The coin pictured is a 1957 D Wheat, which I happily have in my collection.

Some might call it a sulfur spot , I call it a carbon spot. These spots are dreaded by all bu Lincoln collectors because once they are there there's nothing you can do about it without ruining the coin.

This looks like a carbon spot.
If you sneeze or blow your noise above a coin ( or some other human nose/throat trajectory) a carbon spot my appear.

Either a stain or a carbon spot...there is no such thing as a "sulfur spot".

Thanks for the kind words! I feel like an amateur compared to the great photographers of this forum, though.
