The Family Scene coin is the one I looked at as a comparative when the QE Roses was release mainly because they are the same size, weight, denomination and initial mintage.
The pink gold doesn't add much to the FS coin IMO. Final mintage was reported at just 6687. I think issue price and design were the big problems. The mother and child is difficult to see, especially on a small coin, and the issue price was a whopping $64.95 - $20 more than the Roses coin. Of course one could blame Ag spot prices for that though the mint doesn't seem to pay much attention to spot rates.
I did purchase the FS coin but at a discount. I did not order the Roses.
FYI, rep claims the Roses is 90% sold out and expected to be gone from the Mint tonight. He may have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale too.
Was the Family Scene coin and the Return of the Tyee from 2010 a pair? The same $3 face and 2 coloured gold on Silver proof coins. Tyee was $54.95 and 15,000 mintage.
I don't think they were explicitly connected though you couldn't blame a collector for having both...I do. lol
Reported mintage was 8,301 so it didn't sell well either.
I find it interesting that those coins were called 'pink' gold whereas the newest one is called 'rose' gold. I guess they are actually different, or perhaps the Mint just decided to call it rose gold because of the theme.
There are a number of RCM $3 face 1/4 ounce coins out there, it would be neat to see a set. Flanders Fields, Wait for Me Daddy, Martin Short, Gone Fishing, Canadian Flag RED on Map, Jewel of Life Gold Tree with Swarovski Crystals, Animal Architects (Spiders, Bees etc.).
Many were duds, 1/4 ounce for $55 is a problem, I have a bunch of these. Maybe I have the problem.
Rose is nice, but history says you will be able to pick this up for less than issue within a year.

Right, but with the correction. History tells, that although ability to pick up for reduced price, you will not be interested in this coin after half a year. There is just no reason to buy it (despite people like to buy whatever is cheap). If you do not need it now - so it just 1/4oz Silver or $3 face value coin, nothing else.
Maybe not everyone knows of the significance of this coin and the connection to Queen Elizabeth and the popular pink rose variety named in her honour? Other than perhaps filling a spot in a $3 collection, it's most likely designed with Mother's Day in mind or an appropriate gift for someone who likes roses.
The theme of the Roses has a cross-reference with the "Alice in the Wonderland", where the scene of the painting roses in red described, cause this is the way the Queen of Hearts likes them.
I ordered from Canada post on the 20th of April still no coin do they take time to send it to you.I am in Ontario. Anyone else order and not receive the coin yet.
For those of you intending to give this coin as a Mothers Day gift, this must really be disappointing. That RCM suddenly chose to release it mid-April without stock in hand, it gave the false impression there'd be adequate time to receive it by early May. But it appears it was actually a May release that was advertised early. I also ordered one from CC&C around that date, I notice it was just shipped yesterday.
