"to boldly go where" coin "trekkers" will go... Had a peak of new upcoming RCM designs on other forums...and I would predict much appeal and approval by science fiction lovers of the series... The two designs I've seen look really cool...they will be highly sought... Wondering if anybody can report what the total number of star trek coins will be. And as reported by others...there will be stamps too. Certainly baby boomers who know the series...both in Canada and the USA...will gravitate towards them no doubt... Anybody under 35 likely less so...but one never knows.. Definitely pop culture theme - which we should expect more of from RCM.

I haven't seen anything yet about this proposed set, but it sounds interesting. As you stated, it will probably be desired by many trekkies, whether they be young or old. I consider myself a 'nerd' and would be interested, but I do have coin-collecting bounderies that will probably keep me from trying to get an entire set. If they are issued as $1 coins, or quarters, I can guarantee I'll buy them, but I don't (currently) save any coins with 'face value' over $1. Although my funds fly out of my bank account quickly to buy coins (so far this year I've spent over half my income on coins), I do have limits. AN example is the current Batman v Superman coins from the RCM. I like them but the only one I will buy is the 25c variety. I've been trying to pick one up on ebay for a few weeks, but haven't found any cheaper (yet) than what I can buy directly from the RCM website. PS: What's funny is that I'll gladly pay $25 for a 25c coin, but refuse to pay $20 for a $20x$20 offer.

As non-trekkie, but a Sci-Fi fan I find the $20for$20 more attractive, than the Coin and Stamp.
So we have Star Wars and Star Trek on the coins, will be the Start Craft next? (Canadian connection will be found, if project promised to be profitable).

I'm sure I have watched every episode of the original series but I'm definitely not a trekkie or trekker or whatever they're calling themselves now. However, as a coin collector, this series is silly. The 20 'proof' has to be a joke. It's 95% just a picture. How is that a proof coin?! The artist on the reverse is "CBS" - yes the TM holder. It's a picture, not a coin. Hopefully this series flops so the Mint doesn't produce a bunch of Happy Days coins (yes, with a jumping the shark lenticular). And now for some humour. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xm...t-a-life_fun

They will produce whatever they think they can make a profit on, there is no doubt in my mind, I mean you can only find so many "Canadian" related subjects that collectors actually want to buy to make coins from, TV shows are definitely something they could put on coins in the future. Happy days would be cool actually lol. Who wouldn't want a "Fonzie" coin?

Funny you guys mention that, because I have a friend at 4D (they design coins for the RCM and a few other mints) and they were asked to design a 'Minecraft' or is it 'Mindcraft' coin.

Here the info provided on other forum, by one of the members (here as well), thank you! Quote: Star Trek coins: additionally to what you already know, there will be 4 captains, 3 famous scenes, 1 pure gold coin. According to this, the theme overdone. The $20 looks very poor, the bad past style of Perth Mint, when the coin is colored. Again, they not able to create the "atmosphere" of the Star Trek universe and looks like will just put the actors pictures to the coin...

Hmmmmm.....@silveroid. I thought I saw a scene of the spaceship hovering over earth on the silver coin and it looks like a graphic beauty box as well. It looked real good! Did not know about actors pictures on coins. I have no interest in those. The 20/20 should be interesting and if there is a gold, what will they have on it? Very curious indeed.

@New1954: The $20for$20 looks as nice one - engraved spaceship. But the one that suppose to be $20 Proof coin - check other thread here - it just the image (with or without engraving) of the spacecraft over the planet. Well, might be this enough for the Star Trek fan, but coin-wise - it "cheap". Perth Mint done the Star Trek coins - Capitan / Ship series with package aka "Transporter". The coins aren't bad - picture of the Captain with spacecraft engraved ......if RCM will put just the Captain image - will not be good at all.

I was not impressed by Perth's star trek sets...and a plastic transponder was silly... Hoping RCM does a far better job... As for more Canadian content tv - on RCM coins... -how about Beachcombers? and for the kids at heart...Mr. Dressup, Friendly Giant...which usually preceded a star trek show...and...Polka dot door...

I just read that the latest installment of the Star-trek Next-next Generation begins filming in September - in Toronto. Might make the StarTrek coins a good investment.

That Star Trek gold coin is going to be huge! If the mintage is 2,000, I predict a one-day sellout. I did some research and there has never been a gold Star Trek coin with a face-value. In 1989, there was a 7 coin gold Star Trek series done, however, these were more like tokens and they were made by Rarities Mint Inc. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Classic-Star...0wGk1nISgh6w
