Presently there's over 40 Gold Deltas for sale on ebay, yet less than 40 altogether have sold in almost 2 months, typically 1 or 2 per day but some days none. Considering the 50th anniversary of Star Trek has passed, that seems a relatively high number still on the market, especially given the 1,500 mintage.

While I can appreciate that Trekker owners of the coin are delighted to have it and its value comes from the pleasure to add to a collection as opposed to profiting --- looking back through the pages on this thread much of the discussion was about future value. It's high potential was sometimes compared to the 2013 Superman 75th anniversary gold coin, mintage 2,000, issue price $750.

While I'm genuinely curious as to opinions - what was the difference? - if there's a lesson to be learned here, it's that most often the future value of one NCLT cannot be accurately predicted based on general comparisons.

What might be some reasons that Superman skyrocketed in value up to x3 but the Gold Delta has struggled to climb even to 1/2x?

Good question wildflowerAB. "What might be some reasons that Superman skyrocketed in value up to x3 but the Gold Delta has struggled to climb even to 1/2x? "

1) The attraction to the delta gold, imho, aside from trekkie's wanting one was the appeal to make some money - me included. Gambled and won.
2) Delta gold was pre-released some 5-6 months in advance while 2013 Superman gold was available immediately and surprised many with it's "popularity".
3) Superman has been an icon long before Star Trek was even thought of thusly many more followers for Superman.

Lastly, "if there's a lesson to be learned here, it's that most often the future value of one NCLT cannot be accurately predicted based on general comparisons"

Agreed. Myself and many other collectors I'm sure have come to this conclusion many, many years and dollars ago.

Very few collectors are willing to pay 4 to 5 thousand for a coin unless it's truly unique or rare.

Unlike Canada's commemorative coin, I'd presume the expected market for the 2016 Gold Delta to have been international.

Might the timing of the UK vote to leave the EU, considering the Queen's effigy, have had a negative impact?

Because the price point for the gold Superman at $750 was lower. Since it was lower it had more room to grow.

Conversely, because the gold Delta coin was so expensive it was hard for it to go for 2x or 3x price.

Very few people can afford or want to pay 2x or 3x issue price for the Delta coin.

"Small revenge" by Perth Mint:

New Star Trek related coin in the case like "Communicator"

Imo - the coin nothing special, "Communicator" is the next toy after "Transporter" and "Delorian DMC-12" cases.

But fans might like it.

I checked inventory for the new Perth Mint Star Trek coin and it is at 380 right now. Remember mintage is 5000. It is pretty expensive at $210 CDN.

As for the RCM gold delta, there are 32 of them for sale on ebay. Very few of them are moving. The ones sold in the last few days are all below $2000.

The Coin Shoppe has this for CAD 215

I agree, that this "more liquid" than expensive Gold Delta.

It very fan-oriented item, I think.
But if someone displays that, it will be looking good together with the Transporter set and Delta (Silver, Gold)

Stop it, Silveroid!

I'm trying to pass on this one (Star Trek burnout), but you're making it difficult for me.

Sorry, Loonie, I stopped.

Anyway, this is not RCM, so better not to speak about it much here.

Cool coin but I think I will pass on this one. 5,000 coins is quite a lot, I'm in no hurry to buy it.

A Star Trek Gold Delta has sold for $5000!

Star-Trek---RCM---2016

But on the same day another one sold for $1790. Why would anyone pay $5000 when you could get one for less than $2000?

I don't believe it sold for $5,000.

The seller probably bought it himself or got someone else to buy it. Then he cancels to get his ebay fees back.

Why? What does it accomplish? Is he just trying to hype up the coin forums to create a higher perceived value for potential buyers?
