About 99.9+% of the time that is the cause of one sided coins. It is POSSIBLE for two planchets to enter the coining chamber at the same time but very rare, and the resulting blank surfaces of the coins are NOT completely flat. Report this Post to the Staff

Only the person who removed it could tell you for sure but love tokens were quite popular in that time period. Typically, the reverse of a coin would be effaced, leaving the date side intact, and then initials or a name would be engraved on the effaced side.
