I went through a box of nickels tonight and found some great coins:

1902 Liberty Head Nickel!
1938
1939 x2
1941 x2
1943
1945D (Silver)
1946D
1947
1948D
1949S
Loads of early and mid 50's dates
2000 Canada 5 cent piece
Two Headed Nickel (being an amateur magician, I have loads of these, but never seen them in circulation!)

I also found a coin that might be a die error. I'm basing this on hope and no skill, so maybe someone can chime in and enlighten me. The nickel seems fairly well struck, except for the end of LIBERTY and the date. The mint mark (D) is clear. Here's a picture:

Here's a picture of the 1902 nickel. I'm guessing this is a G or VG grade, but I'm still learning grading...

Just thought I'd gloat over my finds. Thanks for listening! :)

Nice find on the Liberty head! (and the silver)

I usually find 40-50s every time I search. I get $40 worth at a time. Not sure about the 'error' though not skilled enough to say.

Looks like you had a lot of fun. Make sure to check the ones you kept for varieties.

Which nickels should I keep an eye on for varieties? Looking in the Red Book, I see listings for:

1939 doubled Monticello
1942 over Horiz D
1943P doubled eye and 3/2
1945P DD rev
1949D D/S
1954S S/D
1955D D/S

Are there any others I should keep an eye on?

Does the 2000 Canadian have a small P under the Queen's bust? If it does, you've got a rarer one (worth a buck or two depending on condition)

My RedBook says a VF20 1943P Nickel is worth $100. Looks like another mistake, the same coin is worth only $15 in MS65. Don't see anything else.
