I took these pictures in the Museum at Merida, Spain.

I will update as I get time to crop the pics.

I hope you enjoy!

The actual Merida was "Emerita Augusta"; the capital city of the roman province of "Hispania Ulterior" and after that capital of the province of Lusitania, founded by Publius Carisius (legatus of Octavius Augustus) with legionarius licensed from legions that fought the cantabrians wars (Legio X gemina and Legio V alaudae).
Was a wealthy capital of the first producer of gold province in all the empire.

cool pics half!

I wish when they had two similar coins ( or maybe even the same?) like the leo I or honorius coin on the right, they would flip the other around and show the reverse

In Ibiza we have a museum that have about 100.000 ancient coins...
do you know how many of those coins are exposed?
about 30
The others are not disposable to visitors...
sad, very sad but is the general rule in Spain!

COTW, I don't know where you're from but Boston's Museum of Art had the best coin display I've seen in a US museum. Highly recommended for that and just the general quality.

Here is the next installment!

Thank you Athalbert for the history lesson! I love Merida and wish I could visit again. The history is amazing and it seems like you run into some ancient relic every time you turn a corner. lol

I agree with you COTW; I just enjoy looking at all coins.
