Ok, first forgive me, these were hastily shot. I wanted to try out the pixel shift resolution mode which meant shifting the studio around a bit. These are shot with continuous lighting and at full size. Unfortunately I have a bit more adjustment to do to get the entire coin in the shot but this is close. The images are roughly 5000x5000. It's shot at f8 using the Tamron 90mm macro lens I described in the previous post. Enjoy...

Interesting clashing going on under her ear and across her face right from ear to left.

I would like to upgrade my Pentax body to the K1 but that $1800 price tag tells me no.

Timnic, the 1800 is a lot for sure but comparable Nikon and Canon full frame cameras are three times plus that amount. The lenses are all backwards compatible but be aware that if the lens is an APS.C lens the K1 will auto downsize to APS C. The Tamron Macro lens I used in the shot above is a full frame lens and you can pick up 50 year old Pentax full frame film lenses as well as loads of third party full frame lenses via the bay or photography stores used departments on the cheap. So really the value you get for that money is like no other full frame camera, at least in my opinion. I've shot Pentax K10D and Pentax K5 prior to this one. I know have to rigs, the K5 and the K1. The K1 is just an amazing camera.

Ray, the K1 does not have EFSC in live view but does use it when you use the pixel shift resolution mode. Just thought I'd let you know because you asked in the prior thread.

So now I'm comparing the K1 to the K3-II. Both have the pixel shift resolution mode. Where did you learn that the K1 EFSC is active in pixel shift mode? I have not read that anywhere, but it is of UTMOST importance to my potential purchase. If the K3-II also has it (likely) then I may end up with a K3-II instead of K1. The difference is a vertical sensor height of 4000 for the K3-II, and 4912 for the K1, with 3.9um pixels on the K3-II and 4.9um on K1. The 3.9um is a little tighter than the T2i I am using now, but translates to a DLA of around f6.1. The K1 has DLA of around f7.6.

Ray, from diglloyd.com com on the K1 and K3 II Quote: Pentax K1 behavior should be IDENTICAL to the K3 II, so for more details, see the discussion of the Pentax K3 II behavior with/without Live View.
Pentax USA via Pentax Japan confirms that there is no EFC shutter option in the Pentax K3 II or Pentax K1.
However, there is one exception: SuperResolution pixel shift mode uses EFC shutter. SuperResolution pixel shift mode is the ONLY exposure situation in which EFC shutter is used: Live View does not, self timer does not, etc. I can confirm that in Pixel shift resolution there is absolutely no shutter sound or shake at all when it takes all four shots.

OK, one last question before I pull the trigger...how functional is the tethering software? Can you see anything on the computer in Live view? via HDMI? Can you download pics via USB? I'm so used to the Canon cameras that I am truly spoiled by their software, but I am willing to jump through hoops if I can get sharp 100% shots.

Ray, tethering is not yet available for the K1. It's just out and Pentax has never supplied tethering software. However, I've used PKTether for the K5 and the K10D when I owned that one. There are a few other third party groups who've created tethering software for Pentax and I've reached out to them to find out if there are plans on supporting the K1 and they've all said yes but they don't have the camera in hand yet. So it might be a while.
The camera itself is so popular that it's on backorder just about everywhere until July. I ordered mine site unseen when they announced it back in February which is why I have one. I got mine on May 6th so I've only been playing with it for about two weeks. If I hear anything more on the tethering software I'll post it here.

Well, you might have seen my other thread on my woes with the K3-II. It's Pixel Shift mode is not all I was hoping. I suspect the K1 may have some upgraded firmware that solves the inter-image offset issue that causes the K3-II issue. If so, then it might even offset any vibration that happens during the pixel shifting, which is what I think caused the issue on the last image I published in the other thread.
If you'd be willing to do a couple of shots we can see if the K1 has indeed solved this issue. First is to push up to as high a magnification as you can with the lens, which I think will be 1:1. Adjust aperture to f4 to keep from causing too much diffraction blur. Then simply take a shot with PSR on, and one with PSR off. The comparison between these two images should tell what's going on, as they did on the K3-II. Note that 1:1 is not as sensitive as higher magnifications, but the issues on the K3-II showed up at around 0.7:1 so 1:1 should be OK to test the K1.
