Last week I purchased some eagles in la and paid no tax of any kind. Today, local store in upscale LA burb stated that CA sales tax applies to any purchase under 1,500. He didn't state of that was $1500 or 1500ea. Can anyone shortcut my research and clue me in ? Thanks

California
Exemption on Coins and Bullion when over $1500. Paper Money is taxable.
The BOE also announces that the bulk sales tax exemption for gold and silver coins and bullion will remain at $1,500. The BOE is required to adjust the exemption threshold annually, as needed, based on the California Consumer Price Index.
