I bought a 1909 VDB penny and it looks little odd to me. I'm a beginner collector but it seems to be cleaned to try to restore the original copper color. Also it appears the periods are not there between the d and b. What do you guys think?

The fields are too corroded and the image is too flat.

Nice buy

You may be able to re-tone this coin naturally, by placing the coin on a windowsill in either the bathroom or kitchen.

Oh, and to the CCF!

It is authentic. No one would fake a low value coin in such conditions yet. It is cleaned and damaged. F12 in grade. But due to the damage, it would not grade.

Sadly some people have in fact did do that. The best example is Henning Nickels. Also, Steel Cents have been dipped to make them look shiny again.

Now back on topic, I agree with the ones saying it's cleaned. But you did get others coins, so it wasn't a bad deal.
