Found this one while looking through some 1978 stacks that I had.
There is doubling on the 1 and 9, and what looks like a RPM on the MM?
Thoughts?

When it's on both and in the same direction on a pre-1990 coin, 99% of the time it is Strike Doubling.

Doubled Dies are on the die first. Before 1990 the mintmarks were added to the dies after the dies were produced, therefore a Doubled Die wouldn't include the mintmark.

@CoinMasters Could you please help me with this 1978 LMC?

At first I was sure that it was MD, but the more I look at it and in other parts of the coin, the more confused I get.

I see examples of doubled die in Cherrypicker's guide, even though this one is not listed there, and can't ignore the similarities in terms of doubled die.

Thankfully this penny was in really good shape.

The inside of "B" and "R" is visible here but in looking at the coin through a loop is a lot more obvious.

The "T" and "E" in United seems like MD, but looking closely at the "E" it almost seems like a doubled die to me.

This also confused me with all those extra pillars. Noticed The one on the far right shows the most extra pillars.

I will gladly post more pictures if needed. Right now I have the coin in a 2x2 coin holder.

Can you make the doubling disappear by angling the coin? If so it's just the lighting. It's normal to have extra at the end columns and two center ones.

Can you hold the coin and see the devices without seeing the doubling?

I see what you mean, the doubling should be the same height as the device right? If it is below, then it is just Machine Doubling.

I was thinking it might be just light reflecting. I believe it's MD. You should start your own topic for your next coin. You can get more information that way.
