Right to left dating used by Tip Sultan is Mauludi dating based on the birth of the Prophet. He used that with some modifications on his coins. His coin dating is very complex and extremely difficult to understand. He had given names to each denomination of his coins. Patan and Nagar mint coins were different from the other issues. All his copper coins have elephant on the obverse either to the left or right. Some show elephant with raised trunk. This diversity and complexity of Tipu make them unique and of an altogether different stream in Indian numismatics.
