Hello. This coin is listed on ebay (link below) and as of this writing has 22 hours to go. I am not an expert on counterfeits, and for all I know, this is a totally genuine coin from an ethical seller. But what made me suspicious is the pronounced indentations in the area of the stars on the lower right of the obverse. I had read somewhere that this is sometimes a red flag for possible Chinese counterfeits, but I can't remember the specifics or where I read it.
Anyway, does anyone know if that is indeed a sign of a counterfeit and/or if this coin looks fake? Thanks for your help.

Look too at the roughness of the rim, particularly in the southwest corner. Not what I'd expect on what appears to be an otherwise AU(?) coin.

Coin is absolutely real. What you are seeing is Lapping or basining. Commonly found on early 1880s San Francisco dollars, but known on others as well. Done to repair or enhance a die. Can result in the look of that dollar. It certainly is no counterfeit.

I agree genuine coin also looks over dipped or polished.
