Original label says this coin is 1837. However, judging from the flat top of the third letter and the fact that the numbers 2 and 3 both have round tops on large cents, I think this might actually be 1817. It has 13 stars.

So...What's the verdict? I'm also curious about attribution.

1817, head style is wrong to be an 1837. You play with these awhile and the style differences become obvious. the point of the bust is too thick and rounded, and the profile is different.

I think it is an 1817. The bust would look like this if it was an 1837...
