I do a lot of broad searches on world coins and see a lot of coins from Cuba. I have noticed for a long time that the word "Cuba" is almost always missing from the heading. One seller used "Q-buh" or something similar, so I messaged him.

He said something to the effect that Cuba is considered a terrorist country, so the designation is not allowed! I find that amazing if it's true. After all, there's no shortage of Iran listings or many others one could think of.

From what I understand anything made after Uncle Fidel took over is not legal to sell in the US. Anything made before that is fair game.

We've had a long standing embargo with Cuba and even though we are being more friendly the embargo is still in place. Until that embargo is lifted the ebay bots will kill Cuban coin auctions. That's why you see Cuba missing in titles or spelled phonetically

The listing tool on ebay actually throws an error when Cuba is used in the title of a listing.

I have also seen these listings slide through with the title spelled (uba.

Up until about four years ago it wasn't a problem, then ebay got a wild hair up their... and suddenly decided that because of the embargo anything from Cuba was illegal. Of course that wasn't true, anything from before they placed the embargo on Cuba was perfectly legal to buy, sell, import, export etc. It was only items from AFTER the embargo that you couldn't trade in, and some of those you could as well as long as they weren't directly imported from Cuba. But rather than have to determine what was and wasn't acceptable ebay just placed a blanket ban on anything Cuban. At least on the US site. I know for at least awhile you could still list or buy Cuban material by logging into one of the European ebay sites. I haven't tried that for awhile so I don't know if you can still get around their ban that way.

And because ebay is a corporation from the US, I cannot list any item with the word Cuba in the title. Weird workaround here is using the term 'Carribean'...

Yep, ebay is a US company and imposes its rules on the entire planet, even though the US is the only country to have a trade embargo against Cuba. So if I were a seller in Australia, I can't list a Cuban coin for sale in Australia, to Australians, on ebay Australia, because of this rule. The only reason some "foreign ebay sites" might work is sites where "Cuba" is spelled differently in the local language. You could probably get away with selling them on ebay Germany by using the German spelling "Kuba", for example.
