Coin I was debating from the rev - but but the pouros issue was even and it was the obverse that I found most appealing. Coins like these Detail graders are tricky to grade - its the appeal to the buyer that makes the sale as I felt finding what is appealing to me is what makes sense to me. Under $5,000 for this coin is fair as finding another details grader will have its own issues. I wanted a Clear problem free obverse field with as much nice non pouros of the the portrait itself. And so this was a great candidate and when looking at this coin in different angles it looks great in all of em for a 1796 rev 94 Report this Post to the Staff

billjones Pillar of the Community United States 1499 Posts	Posted 06/20/2016 5:56 pm I netted something like $6,000 out of this 1797, S-139 cent from an Early American Coppers Club auction. It was featured on the front of the sale catalog. This piece was in the low end of the condition census for the variety when I sold it, and it had a pedigree from past auctions and collections. When I owned it, PCGS refused to grade it because of the red corrosion on both sides. After someone else got it PCGS graded it. Go figure. I present this to compare with the 1796 that started this thread. I think that my 1797 has fewer problems, but that might just my opinion. The thing I like when buying from them is they got clear nice pictures on ebay and I can take my time reviewing the coin as I wish; hence the clear pictures are helpful in making a trusted decision that's exciting till I get the coin in hand without a question. Coppers like these in higher grade will come with its kinks as this does. Iv yet to find a 1796 draped bust that's AU sharpness with another issue that is more distracting like cuts scratches or a weird damage mark on the face or other prime area of the coin. This coin has got non of the above- but yes is porous evenly on rev with micro bity pits at 10:00. My interest was a 1796 94 reverse. They did have another 1796 rev 95 in AU dets for $2750 --- BUT and that is a big butt the coin had a deep gauge on the face on the cheek mouth area. And of course I was not wanting that one. I could yap on en on and yes I realize this particular coin I'm not expecting to ever fetch more than $4500k but I'm happy to have gotten this one to enjoy for many years to come. The coin is very nice though and its a 97 yes. I was trending for a 96 rev 94 specifically and finding one with as much detail as what I got is very uncommon you can agree to that. The obverse of mine is so remarkably preserved that I just felt wow ok here is a rare opitunity that I saw with trusted sellers that will fit perfectly as a example of a 1796 rev94. -- every one feel free to put your EF or higher draped bust on this thread I would love to see it !
