Alex A, not that I've noticed. Sort of interesting, from RCM's 2nd quarter RCM report as at July 2nd: : "During the 13 weeks ended April 2, 2016, the Mint released five million commemorative coins, including a one-dollar coin commemorating the 100th anniversary of women's right to vote in Canada. On July 1, 2016 the Mint issued a new Lucky Loonie one-dollar circulation coin for the Rio 2016 Summer Games. Several more commemorative circulation coin launches are planned for the remainder of the year."http://www.mint.ca/store/dyn/PDFs/R...%20FINAL.pdf______ My curiosity got the better of me but I can't find any other Approved Orders appearing in the Gazette, except for the most recent one to authorize the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of the Atlantic toonie.

Quote: I don't understand though what it's the 75th anniversary of. The Battle of The Atlantic began in 1939 and ended in 1945. It was 1943 when Canada took command of the operations in the western North Atlantic. I wondered the same thing so I went looking and found this ... Quote: In June 1941, the British decided to provide convoy escort for the full length of the North Atlantic crossing. To this end, the Admiralty asked the Royal Canadian Navy on May 23, to assume the responsibility for protecting convoys in the western zone and to establish the base for its escort force at St. John's, Newfoundland. On June 13, 1941 Commodore Leonard Murray, Royal Canadian Navy, assumed his post as Commodore Commanding Newfoundland Escort Force, under the overall authority of the Commander-in-Chief, Western Approaches, at Liverpool. Six Canadian destroyers and 17 corvettes, reinforced by seven destroyers, three sloops, and five corvettes of the Royal Navy, were assembled for duty in the force, which escorted the convoys from Canadian ports to Newfoundland and then on to a meeting point south of Iceland, where the British escort groups took over. - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battl...2%80%931945)Add that to RCM's stated "Objective" of the coin.. Quote:Objectives The RCM wishes to produce a commemorative $2 circulation coin in honour of Canada's veterans on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Canada's leadership role in the Battle of the Atlantic (1939-1945)... - http://gazette.gc.ca/rp-pr/p2/2016/...s122-eng.php ...and the 2016 release date makes sense. Not sure what event you're referring to in 1943, but it appears Canada took command of the North Atlantic western zone in 1941. Looking forward to it's release and actually finding one of these in circulation.

Official announcement and unveiling should be Oct 19th. The coin is beautiful as I have them in hand already. However I can NOT release any information on it until the 19th. I can tell you though that they will be package similarly to how the recent Women's Right to Vote & Olympic Lucky Loonie Packs were packaged (flexible semi-rigid folderlike [three fold] holder) Words are free:" Remembering the war at SeaThe Battle of the Atlantic raged for six years, from the earliest days of the Second World War to the final hours of the conflict in Europe. Sailors in both the Royal Canadian Navy and Canada's Merchant Navy played an indispensable role. They Transported, and defended, Canadian men and women, and vital supplies, across the treacherous North Atlantic, aided from the sky by the Royal Canadian Air Force. This Special $2 coin continues a proud Royal Canadian Mint tradition of paying tribute to the men and women who have served our country, and honouring all those who have fought in times of war"

The official unveiling will take place tomorrow (October 20th) aboard the HMCS Sackville in Halifax. I just checked the mint website and they are not yet available for order. Likely tomorrow after the event? http://www.edmontonjournal.com/busi...&filter=5599
