There are a couple of nice designs however I think most of them are weird. My Favourites are "True North Strong and Free and Winter Fun".

I think that the RCM is just looking for ways to produce more and more, to the excess, granny bait to sell and market. These "commemorative" issues that they started years ago had a true Canadian flavor and actually highlighted things that were/are Canadian. Lately, they pick any subject they can think of to try to sell from the mint store or post offices, like the current Loonie Tunes (how Canadian!). Now they stretch it to family and campfires and farmers, and oceans. The RCM is soon going to be known as another country whose only busines is marketing special issue coins worldwide ... like the Cook Islands and others.

I am also tired of all these coins being issued by the Mint.Concentrate on getting the Queen out off the obverse on all our coinage instead .

I think it's good that we celebrate our 150th anniversary with something unique - the 1967 issue was pretty special at the time. My only gripe is that most of the images are similar to pencil sketches that would be more appropriate for a wall hanging as opposed to small coins where the detail gets lost. I would have preferred something clear and simple in design that connected with the 1967 series.
I couldn't help but notice the email signup at the bottom of the voting webpage....anyone who signs up will soon learn they're about to be bombarded with everything from soup to nuts that is always "one of a kind", "rare", "limited", "special" and "sell out quicks".

I agree with wildflower, they seem to be overly complex (fine pencil) or look something like a 7 year old did in art class. I miss the simple but nice designs of 1967. That being said, if they come out for circulation, they will be in my collection. NCLT, not so much.

The reason why the 1967 coins look so good are the large, open fields... my picks would follow the same ideology.... Here are my picks, some were forced (because, 'none of the above' was an option on some). I really, really like the wheat coin...

What incredible piles of goo. The Cook Island Coin co. Is alive on Sussex Drive in Ottawa. Just another round of Granny bait. How about a redux on Alex Colvilles 1967 designs in reverse proof in the original compositions, dated 1867- 2017 including the cent and the twenty dollar gold piece. That would be incredible in my opinion. Our American cousins have it right. For 2016 reintroducing the great designs of the 1916 issues. The RCM is just churning junk IMHO.

You forgot "world's first" Quote: The reason why the 1967 coins look so good are the large, open fields... That's very true. The 1967 nickel is one of my all time favourite Canadian coins. The Wheat coin is the nicest of the bunch imho. It would have looked fantastic on a quarter (be a shame if it gets wasted on the dime) ... too bad we're gonna get stuck with one of those childish designs on it instead.

Yes, and "hurry!". ******** Quote: How about a redux on Alex Colvilles 1967 designs in reverse proof in the original compositions, dated 1867- 2017 including the cent and the twenty dollar gold piece. Agreed, I think either would be far more meaningful considering the purpose of celebrating anniversaries is most usually paying tribute to the past.

These are for circulation (as were Colville's in 1967). I think it is almost certain there will be a redux of Coville's designs in NCLT (a huge wasted opportunity, if not). I'm hoping for both a fine silver and fine gold proof set. But, the Our Wonders Canada Goose design for the Loonie would be a fitting homage to Colville. Here's my choices:

How did I miss this thread? I voted a while ago, but saved the screen show of my picks. I don't like most of the designs, but there are a few, especially the wheat, that I do really like.
