Is that a thick or thin planchet?

Thick, to the best of my knowledge from research. Do you have a way to determine that without a scale?

Chaos, really? there's barely a scratch or any other circulation marks on either of them. I'm surprised.

I couldn't find an actual thickness measurement but the thick planchet should weigh 19.7 grams. The thin is the rarer of the two and I believe it is more of a coin stock thickness while the thick is more of a medal stock thickness.

It is a good looking medal with nice luster. With a few spots and possibly a little bit of rub(pics are a bit out of focus to sharper pics might resolve that) I would call it a nice AU.

Thanks for showing it as I believe it is the first one I have seen posted in my 2 1/2 years here(I have seen them at shows though)

Thanks, Bio...it's far thicker than coin stock...probably as thick as Three Cents, anyway.

These are EXTREMELY hard for me to grade from photographs. They both could be anywhere from AU-55 to MS-63 or so. In almost all those I've looked at in TPG holders, I've wondered how the graders came to their conclusions. There's a pewter-y flatness to the medal's color that sometimes looks like wear. I wouldn't be able to guess fairly without these in hand.

I agree, half...since theyre not really "coins" and there really is no reason to "circulate" them, it's hard for me to judge, too; even in-hand. Could be AU or could be MS63 with a ding or two.
