I know that, technically, this 'currency' has been more or less just a virtual predecessor of the Euro. Nevertheless, a lot of countries have issued coins in various denominations and sizes in the 1980s and 1990s. I came across a few of those in the course of the last few years and, after looking at my total collection, I have now sort of decided to start collecting those as a 'weird' and novelty collection. However, there is one issue. There doesn't seem to be a comprehensive overview of issues coins / tokens. I guess that's because this has never been a legal currency and has never been put into circulation and thus it hasn't been of interest for 'serious' coin collectors. Nevertheless, some pieces are simply beautiful and especially the general obscurity and disinterest of anyone else makes me determined to make this a collection as complete as possible. Quite some pieces have even been made in gold and silver, so that makes it extra interesting. So now my question to you is: does anyone know if a rather comprehensive overview of ECU coins actually exists and where it can be found? Otherwise, can anyone here help me in creating such an overview? Thanks already.

You might already have seen it but Numista has a couple listed, but it's far from complete. I too have stumbled onto this odd 'currency' and got a bit interested, but it's only non-circulating coins that I'm not usually very interested in.
For instance, I have a Portugese 2½ ECU coin, and Numista doesn't list any Portugese ECU coins.

The problem with Numista is that it's shattered all over the place and far from complete. For example, under 'tokens' it has a header for 'ECU', but it only has some coins. Then there are more tokens under exonumia, and some countries even have it in their country listing. So I was looking for a smarter overview.

As the topic now has been moved to a -hopefully- more appropriate forum, I'd like to ask attention for the question above again. Anyone can help? Thanks a lot!

How comprehensive is the (204) Not Allowed - Auto-Removed listing? http:// (204) Not Allowed - Auto-Removed .com/en/coins/list/currency/1281-_%E2%82%A0_-_European_currency_unit

Thanks both! This is really valuable input.
I haven't seen that Krause before, so I'll try to get a copy somewhere.
And that 'not allowed' website contains the by far most comprehensive overview I've seen so far (and one that's not shattered all over the place like Numista).

Ok, the Krause is ordered. The unnamed site does have a collection, but a lot of 'coins' are still missing. I might just end up creating my own collection based on all these inputs and maybe publish it as a book that no one's interested in.

I think a book would do very well judging by the number of bids some of these coins get. I sell 15-20 each year and Monaco, Scotland and the Isle of Wight are very popular.
