Evening everyone! This is me kind of bragging at a coin/token/commemorative piece that I picked up at a flea market a couple of weeks ago. It's a .999, 1oz copper piece depicting the Battle of Gettysburg. Really pretty if you ask me. :)   *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. *** |

Not in particular. At one point, I was a major history buff and have always been fascinated about the history of the Civil War. So when I saw the coin, I couldn't resist, haha.

@nick56x: Just FYI, your piece is a medal not a coin. A coin is issued under authority of a country's government and has a monetary denomination (i.e., "face value"). A medal, such as yours, does not carry a monetary value (i.e., it can't be spent like a coin).

Welcome to the CCF, Nick56x. That's an attractive silver round. While I tend to focus on the contemporary Civil War items, it now occurs to me that an attractive collection of modern day pieces could be assembled. I like "The General" locomotive piece, too.
A great many varieties of contemporary Civil War tokens can now be purchased for around $20 apiece. Yet, the pictorial pieces do tend to be more costly. These modern, memorial pieces, medals and rounds, sure do boast a lot of design detail.

Exoguy, haha, I wish it was a silver round. But it's merely copper. While it may not be worth as much, it's still very pretty. The token that I picked up, I got for under $8 or so.

I was looking so closely at the obverse battle scene that I failed to read the reverse legend ... copper it is! Intricate design with bold relief, it is. I find the obverse of "The General" to be equally impressive. Many of the modern rounds I see at shows seem to lack this artistry.

All of these in the series have a common reverse, I'm trying to find out how many are in the series. You can find them at some LCS or gun shows They vary in price form $2.00 each up to $5.00 at the gun shows were they are sold as the money of the future after either the zombies or the break down and the preppers take over. They have them in 1/4 1/2 3/4 ounce and in pound 5 pound and 10 pound ingots. Of course having spools of wire that would be useful after the apocalypse, rather than something you can't readily melt down.  |
