Hi all. I'm new to this forum and the world of coin collecting. Like a lot of people in the UK I have been looking out for and keeping hold of the different 50p and £2 coins.
Recently I have taken more of an interest in collecting and would like to collect each of the decimal coins that are, or have been, in circulation in the UK. Including all the designs of the £1 coin before the new 2017 coin comes into use.
The problem I have is I am finding it difficult to find a list of 50p £1 and £2 coins that are or have been in general circulation. Each list I have seen has either been incomplete or includes coins that must be bought from the Mint and were not in general circulation.
As I want to try and find as many as I can in change, swap with friends etc before buying them a list of what I am missing would really help me.
Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

I suggest you have a look at the website of Numista. There you can choose 'advanced search' where you can play a bit with Gregorian dates, coin types, face value, etc. It's one of the best on-line resources I know for such overviews. http://en.numista.com

Hi James and welcome to the Forum! The Royal Mint's own website has a useful list of all UK coins issued for circulation since decimalisation. http://www.royalmint.com/discover/u...o-20p-issuedIf there is no mintage figure shown (as for example with the 1998 and 1999 pound coins), then those coins were not issued for circulation, or are 'NIFC' as we say on the Forum! You do occasionally get NIFC coins in change though - a child may receive an Uncirculated or Proof Set as a Christmas present and break it open and spend the coins!

Thanks guys, both links will be really helpful, I can get a list together and hopefully get all the £1 before they get removed from circulation.

Another quick question, does anyone know which of the 2016 designs will be in circulation? I have read that the "last round pound" will not enter circulation. Will this be the case for the £2 and 50p coin designs?

James - the only coin that I've heard definitely won't be issued for circulation in 2016 is the pound, but I'm not sure about the others. Maybe another member knows something?

James86, I've searched for the same thing, and I've found the Wikipedia pages for each coin ( 50p, 1 Pound, 2 Pound) to be surprisingly helpful. They provide a brief description of each coin's design to determine which commem you have. I have an Excel spreadsheet for my British collection. One tab is coins I'm looking for (denomination, description if it's a commem, and year), and the other tab is a record of what I have in case I'm not sure if I already have a coin. Hope this helps!

twinkinator, I think my problem was looking for a complete list, using a couple of the sources recommended I've managed to put together a full list of what I need and I've been able to store the ones I have in order they were released.
The only problem now is finding them all.

Good luck searching, James86! I'm still missing the Edinburgh city coat of arms 1 pound and some Olympics 50p among other after two trips to England and help from a British friend. There's a lot to collect, but that adds to the fun.
