I have a pretty nice 1938 10 Cents, mucho Luster & a whole lot of die cracks. Die cracks noted and aside, my question is about the finer lines, several that seem raised when I zoom in with a digital microscope.
Is it possible that die polishing can lead to those fine scratches being transferred to the coin as 'Raised' fine lines that take on the appearance of being cleaned at first glance.
Another question would be if cleaned, how can such a coin take on a natural (or rebuild) a heavy luster.
Thanks for your input.
A little update upon closer inspection... there is a die clash of the sailboat on the obverse of the coin and the fine raised lines look like an attempt at removing it. At least this it what I deduce. The point of one of the sails is protruding from the top of the kings head and the diagonal lines from the ships sail are to the left & right in the fields beside the king's head.
