Looking at it quickly, it seems to have nice luster and might even grade 64. But it's a common date and raw, so there's the submission cost and grade risk factors to consider. You could probably find a common date 64 in a major TPG holder for around $550 or less as gold slides. Discount back for a raw coin, grade for yourself, add shipping and go from there.

This one may have been in a bezel. The obverse right above Liberty's head has a good sized scratch that could have been from a screw driver used to pry up the tabs of the bezel. Also a mark on the edge of the rim above the scratch. Looks like a couple flat spots on the reverse rim that could also be from bezel prongs at 12 O'clock, 3 O'clock, 6 O'clock, and 9 O'clock. If you take a chance on it, make sure there is a return privilege if you see this was a jewelry piece once you receive it. I'll hold off on grading this one.

IGE - Came back to this after a phone call and looked more carefully. Perhaps you are right, but bezel coins generally do not look this sharp and lustrous. There are return privileges.

Frog, I've seen many common date BU gold coins put into bezels. This one may or may not have been, but I am seeing some red flags and would prefer seeing this one in hand and checking it with a glass. I guess the ending bid might shed more light, this one is not being bid up like a high grade $2 1/2 Lib would normally be.

Got a response ebayNew message from: ozzymarrsharron Top Rated Seller(10,381YellowShooting Star) hi, it does not look like it has ever been in jewelry, its a very nice sharp looking coin I think a $300 bid is a safe shot on this. Worst case it has a full return policy. I managed to get a little bit of extra money for buy my other $5 gold and have enough for this. Sold 50 oz of silverware from my late grandmother I held onto for 2 years til silver broke $20 again. $700 for my collection.

Will do thanks guys. When it comes to gold I'm a novice. As you all know I'm more into silver mainly Morgan's.

i think it should technically grade MS64, however, I do not know how much the hit above the head would adjust the value.

Well I won it for $286....lets see how she is when I get it next week. If it's damaged its going right back. Could that hit on the head be perhaps a die crack or struck through something?

No. It is a scratch, and a nasty one at that. MS-62 tops.
