Hi there, picked up my second Roman coin, of Valentinian I. I know very little could anyone help identify it or any info at all or coin number etc?

it was sold as "AE3 R Victory left"

I believe the text on obverse is "DN VALENTINIANUS PF AVG" and the obverse "SECVRITAS REIPVBLICAE"

Star over "P" in left field of obverse, and an "M" in the right (possibly with a dot over the "M"). Many thanks, coin below -

Here is the page for your reverse type. You can scroll down to find the various field marks.

Armed with that, check this excel sheet for info on scarcity etc:

As a side note, I generally do not think that RIC numbers for late bronzes are useful, although you can probably find that info. RIC is the better part of a century old, and there have been many, many minor varieties discovered that simply aren't included. It's like trying to use a RedBook for identifying all 85+ types of 2009 LP-2 DDR cent varieties.

Coin arrived in the mail today!

Awesome thank you. very interesting links, & I'll keep that in mind about the RIC usefllness. took a while but I got it

RIC IX Siscia 15a, type xvii-a
367-375ad
Minted Siscia

Very pleased with it for £14.50. Couple of better pics & next to my other Roman for comparison (postumus came out a bit unfocused though)
