I was looking at an online NCG brochure and came across the following line "ILLEGIBLE DATE is self-explanatory. If the exact date cannot be determined for any reason, then the coin is not eligible for grading." My question is this: will NCG grade a coin whose date of issue is determined only by diagnostics other than date (E.g., raised mound for type-1 Buffalo nickel)?

They will, but in the case of the buffalo, it's really not cost effective since they have so little overall value.

I agree with what has been said. also I think you meant NGC...NCG is a basement slabber.

I think they will, as long as it can be determined by type or is instantly recognizable. I doubt they would if they have to determine the variety to determine the date. For example one year only types such as 1793 Half Cents, chain cents, wreath cents, 1796 quarters etc.

NCG will grade anything as MS70, as long as you pay upfront. Preferably with Western Union.

Now NGC, that's a whole other story.
