Editing Images So They Are Not Too Big

Sometimes when I go to upload a picture, I'm told the file is too big. So I go into your image optimizer, make changes, and the new picture shows a size of less than 300kb. However, when I save the file and try to upload it again, it still says it's too big. What am I doing wrong?

in the optimizer, underneath the picture, you will see a number, you need this number to be under 100 (it turns from red to green as well). once you get under 100, then download it.
