I'm trying to get better at Peace dollar grading. In your opinion, what would you grade this coin? Are those hairline scratches from circulation or is this coin lightly cleaned? I didn't want to post the actual grade of the coin because it might cause a bias in folks opinion. I will post it after I get some replies. Thanks in advance!

I agree it's a mid AU. Rubs and dings from minor circulation. My buddy has a PCGS au55 he's trying to sell that looks almost identical

Hard to tell from the pictures. Can you blow up the obverse?

Agree 55, but it wouldn't surprise me if the obverse has been cleaned judging form the whitish color compared to the natural-looking reverse.

I still have a nice AU-58 on my wish list but it appears this isn't the one. This is a NGC AU-58 up on ebay now for $999 OBO, not worth it. I thought it kind of looked lightly cleaned melt. Most of the AU's I come across look like garbage or they are cleaned (but still not graded details). I've been looking on and off for about a year for a good one but haven't had any luck!

Could be, but in a lineup I would never match this obverse with this reverse.

Could have been in an album for a while causing the different obverse and reverse colors. One side exposed and one side not.

Actually, I think it's a lighting issue in the two pics. Look at the color of the NGC slab background - it is much lighter and brighter in the obverse than in the reverse pic.

I think the color differences are due to lighting and the image itself. Notice the color of the holder in each image.

Saruma, that was funny. Yours and my post saying the exact same thing at the exact second in a 12 hour old thread.

Found it in Sold listings and checked the cert at NGC. Color is consistent there.
