So on ebay right now there is a 2017 Toonie. Weird right? How could this coin exist right now in September 2016. ebay # 112124391374 Was this a leak from the mint?

gonna make some people wonder..back door job?, should not be a die test, until they are ready to mint..maybe they are getting an early start on the new coins, and one slipped out..and if you collect nclt coins some of them are dated 2017..

Wait... 2017 coins should be commemorative right? New designs for Canada's 150 years...? Should this coin exist at all?

fun to see what the future 2017 circulation toonie might look like, I almost had a heart attack, when I found this , yes, its mine, I got it in my change from timmies! I really dont want to speculate on it, at this point, I`m just happy find it!

Nice find KoolKat! It would be a really good idea to get your coin slabbed, if for no other reason other than to provide proof that this coin actually existed in 2016. If there turns out to be regular issue toonies in 2017 you will have no proof otherwise that you had the coin prior to 2017. In August 1984 a bag of 1000 1985 quarters was accidentally released by the RCM. One found its way to a LCS in Saskatoon; the prop of which sent it to ANACS to have it certified. I believe this was prior to slabbing; ANACS issued a certificate of authenticity with a 1984 date on it. I bought it from the store in January of 1985 for $50. Don't know if it still has any value but I always wanted a future dated coin myself!

If the 2017 toonies design is the regular polar bear, there is no need to slab not much value, but there are some interesting things happening around the rim thus the bid. Your 1985 quarter is a perfect example although a nice story it really has very little value.

One never knows for sure what RCM has in mind, but according to news releases so far, the circulation coin for 2017 is planned to feature a special 150th anniversary design. If so, your find is very intriguing and I'll bet we'll all be looking closely at the dates of our coin throughout the rest of this year, as there'd be no reason for RCM to mint regular type 2017 toonies in advance other than by error.

Obviously, this ebay seller has a DeLorean and a flux capacitor...

HAHA! "BUCK to the FUTURE"", Next stop, 1911, for a sack of silver dollars, then on to 1921, Royal Canadian Mint, I have a box of halves and nickels to pick up, then over to 1936 to buy up the entire stock of 36 dot pennies!

I have no idea what the OP has but from what I understand, all of the circulation coins in 2017 will be special commemorative designs BUT the Mint will also be producing a special 2017 uncirculated set of the coins with regular designs and as they stated, that set will be the only way to get the regular designs on circulation coins....or will it?!

I just got off the phone with ICCS. They said they wouldn't certify it.

so just like back in 1999 and 2000 when they did all those crazy quarters, they still made caribous, only for the mint sets. so it is entirely possible that a regular polar bear toonie will be made next year.

Just contacted CCCS. Their response is great! Quote: Hi We would have to inspect it to make sure its authentic and not a fabrication... If proven authentic, we can certify it with a date in comment. Louis
