Found this in the register at work the other day. Is there a point when a strike is so weak it's considered an error? Zero steps on this one. Practically half the Monticello missing also from weak strike. Obverse showing big flat area on cheek of bust also.

I don't know , but I'll say MS-details . The whole bust is loaded with scratches , the whole Monticello building is all scratched up and weak , but the rest of the coin is in MS condition .

Low MS, just like IGE said. Honestly would be worth just tossing back into circulation IMO, those steps are wiped. However, not wiped from circulation....more like wiped from terribly worn out dies.

That was very notorious for nickels 1965-1970 since the dies were absolutely terrible.

Probably why it ended up in the register drawer in first place. Definitely doesn't do justice to the design. Oh well. Thank you all!

I don't know the series but it looks like weak strike to me....like all the high points were never fully brought up. Looking at the fields and the rest of the coin, it appears to be MS. Does it cartwheel or have a halo luster?

Still a nice circ find. Id say 62 with no chance at at 3 with all those bag marks. But I wouldn't spend it though.

Thank you everyone for the comments. It definitely has cartwheels going on, even some prooflike quality. Plan on trying ebay with this one, I think. May make a couplefew dollars with it.

If it has the luster and clean fields, I believe most of the scratches were on the planchet. Like with Lincolns, the metal doesn't get fully struck-up so the planchet is revealed is all it's ugliness. JMHO

I found quite a few nice, super lusterous MS Jeff's searching my friends huge change hoard.

I would be curious to see if someone would bite on this on ebay.

To me, it looks like an Uncirculated poor strike, and not worth the postage to send it.

MS62 or MS63 at best I would say. Has some noticeable nicks on obverse.
