In my limited experience, you're much more likely to find a counterfeit among raw coins. Let's face it -- it's easier to fake just a coin rather than the coin and the slab, too. I've seen only a handful of issues with slabs (one or two referenced somewhere in this forum, plus a couple of videos on YouTube) but that's enough to make me aware and a little hesitant.

As long as you're working with a trusted dealer (check their feedback, how many transactions they're done...) you're probably okay raw or slabbed.
