I purchased this piece from a long-time collector who specialized in chop marked coins; it was purchased by him decades ago.

He guaranteed the authenticity of the piece and even gave me a quick lesson on how to look for clues to detect chop marks of questionable origin.

The coin's marks look genuine to me, but I'd welcome thoughts/opinions from those with more experience in the chop mark arena.

Thanks in advance.

commems ... this is a numismatic topic way outside my limited area of expertise.

Despite 12 years of young life in Asia ... I never learned to read their written language.

The best I can offer is an observation on the visual appearance of the chop marks versus the host coin ...

To my eye the chop marks appear as brighter than the host coin ... which causes me to wonder/question their date of application.

You are a very knowledgeable collector ... and stated that in some way you trust this dealer ... so I'm going with that for now ... pending a reply from a true expert on these coins.

@nickelsearcher: Any brightness re: the chop marks is apparently an artifiact of my scans. The marks are definitely not brighter than the balance of the coin when viewed in hand.
