Hello. Would anybody know how many regular 2016 loons were minted this year? Ive seen many Women rights to vote and lucky loonies but not many regular loonies. The mint website hasnt updated their minted quantities yet.

Thanks

As far a I know there will not be any 2016 regular loons issued for circulation. Only way to get one is to purchase a PL set.

Obviously it's not true. There is regular loon 2016 selling by some dealer.

One ebay seller claims that only 59k were minted. Not sure where he got that info from.

I'm so confused.
Yes you are right there are rolls of 2016 available for sale from a dealer. Called them to confirm and they do in fact have these available for sale.

Called the mint in Winnipeg and they are sticking with their story that they have none in the boutique and don't expect any will be available for this year.

What a game the mint plays.

I can't speak for the mintage figures. However, I did an ebay search for 2016 uncirculated rolls or coins from rolls and found lots of sellers for 5c, 10c, 25c and toonies, but the only ones offering the regular issue loonies were the guy claiming the 59k mintage, and one listing from Colonial Acres for a roll at the same price as their website. Since no one else seems to be offering any, I think there may be something to the low mintage. Has anybody asked this seller where he got his info from?

Btw, about 4 hours ago Colonial Acres had 12 rolls available on their website but they have all disappeared. Still 70+ singles as I write this, but I'm guessing they won't last long either. I just ordered 4 myself.

Im pretty sure this post had to do with sudden sells of the rolls from the dealers website. I know I picked up a few myself :)

Thanks for posting, was thinking about ordering a mint set, much better deal this way. Another 1991 quarter type coin?

Is this the reason 2015 loonies instead of 2016 were placed in some of the 2016 Uncirculated Sets?

Wouldn't any mintage number of the regular loons include the ones in the Uncirculated Set (60k sets) and they are showing as 88% sold?

I'd say that the mintage figure of 59k being thrown around is based on an assumption that this coin was only going to be available in the Uncirculated set. With nearly 100 rolls being available at one point on a certain Canadian dealer's website (yes, now sold out), this rumour is now confirmed to be untrue.
There are still three full months left in 2016 where there will likely be demand for more dollar coins to be struck for circulation. According to the RCM website, the "Women's Right to Vote" and the "Lucky Loonie" issues had mintages of 5 million each. Since the Mint is now striking the regular loon dollar for circulation, this could indicate that they have reached the production limits of the other issues but still have demand for more dollar coins.
Unless they have another commemorative type dollar coin release in 2016, I wouldn't be surprised to see more of the 2016 regular loon dollar coins before the year's out.

I agree with Quatchi. The 59K is probably arrived at as that is the published circulation amount for the uncirculated sets.
No one really knows what the mint is doing or how many will be issued in rolls for circulation.
All a big secret.

It could be like the $5 Macklem Carney note, rare at first, rumors of not being circulated, then bam!

I remember being at the casino in Vancouver, cashing out a chit and I received a bunch of them, thought I hit the jackpot. Sadly, I got home and realized that the cat was out of the bag and they were being found everywhere.
