I wish he'd left notes explaining why. I was still at a very self-absorbed age when he passed, so I didn't know him as well as I now wish I had.

I agree with n9jig... they must have some sort of sentimental value.

In the movie "Throw Mama from the Train," Danny Devito shows off his coin collection to Billy Crystal. Rather than having numismatic value, all his coins have sentimental value.

My guess is that at one time this "well-handled" envelope held something a lot better. And it was just recycled to hold a few random cents.

Maybe one of them has numismatic value and the other coins are to hide that one within the bunch. Other than that I can only think they either have sentimental value or to baffle others, as aforementioned.
