When decimal currency started BP service stations were selling promotional packs -a plastic pouch with either 6 decimals or 6 pre-decimals.
I saw some yesterday. the pre-decimals were just any old circulated coins but the decimals were all 1966 UNC (odd aUNC).
McDonalds puts 1966 UNC at $83 for the six (1¢, 2¢, 5¢, 10¢, 0¢ 50¢). I wonder what BP was selling them for? Anyone remember.
Also, I wonder how many of these are sitting, neglected, in drawers around the country side? And, how many have been broken up and spent?

There are two of these on ebay at present.
One finishes in a few hours and is up to $45. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...WA:IT&ih=006
The other is up to $22 and has 3 days to go. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...WA:IT&ih=001
This might be a good way to get some uncirculated 1966 coins. Check photos though -one of the two sets I saw the other day had a stain on 50¢ (looks like wallet had been wet sometime) and the 20¢ had two large gouges (but uncirculated otherwise).

Jeff, every coin in that set looks a bit battered.
Beware!! They are not sealed in.
Not many mint sets up to the 70's contain original coins.

I bought one of these sets a few years ago and to be honest was dissapointed with the coins
The coppers were toned (as expected) and they all including the cupros had a stained strip horizontally where the plastic was cut to insert the coins, the stain is right across the middle making coin look like it is 2 halves
The official RAM sets just had a drop in pouch but the plastic used toned them all
The best quality coins seen in 1966 sets are from the Card which has no plastic but even they are dull looking
