Liberty, buy as many Morgan's as you can. They have the biggest and just about guaranteed upside potential. I suggest all high grade as those will do better on the after market but bulk will do well too. Fyi guys, Dan has said he will probably do PL/DMPL version towards the end of the run. When / if I see them up on his site I'll post here after buying of coarse lol so subscribe to this thread to get emails of new posts!

It truly is a cool coin. Does he keep selling until all 1,964 are made or does he stop early? I noticed the final mintage of others no longer for sale are less than 1000.

Liberty, the 1,964 is amongst all finishes. He's already sold around 500+ as of a week ago that I'm aware of and probably more. Once he gets close to the 1,964 he'll consider the others as sold out and do the dmpl or that's the tentative plan at least. Trust me, they will all sell. However it did take a couple of months for the 64d Peace dollars to sell out with the same overall mintage to use that as a metric but with how popular and expensive those have become these may go more quickly. If you have The cash don't wait because one day you will wake up to them being sold out

Just bought a few of the high grade ones. I can sell all but one and hopefully get the one for about spot price :D And wait... is there any way to tell the mintage of each of the "finishes"? For ex. how many bulk, high grade, proof? Or just 1,964 of all of them? Awesome coin though can't wait to see it in hand and is sad he had so many other cool coins but all but like a tenth of his stuff was sold out.

Also just read up some old threads about D.C.'s 1964 Peace dollar and can see he strikes a nerve with some people. People have differing opinions about this stuff but the explanations on the Moonlight Mint website sounded good to me (basically if it doesn't exist it can't be a copy).

Basically if they don't exist then they shouldn't exist. What Daniel Carr is doing is "Mint Sport" using his own press and if this was a Chinese Mint doing the same thing there would be widespread condemnation from collectors. Maybe they are not considered legally to be counterfeit But using genuine US coins to produce these "Fantasy" coins is walking on a knifes edge. I find it hard to understand why any collector would want this sort of garbage in their collections anyway Ah well Fools and their money are easily separated

What worries me, despite the seller's warnings and their good intentions, is that in the future (10, 20 or 30 years) some of these coins might appear on sale in the market as "oddities", and new Collectors may be fooled.

I have a high grade and bulk handled that I am totally pleased with. I'll likely order a PL example next week as well. And as for this - Quote: Ah well Fools and their money are easily separated referring to DC fantasy issues, I think the same can be said about TPG graded modern issues.

Quote:referring to DC fantasy issues, I think the same can be said about TPG graded modern issues. Many of the modern issues are simply "Fads" and at the end of the day they will probably only be worth Melt But they don't have the potential to be used to scam a buyer with their supposed rarity like the DC coins (and I use that term loosely here) have the potential to. The DC offerings are NOT coins they are tokens or medallions with NO official credentials and IMHO are a scam. They are just as bad as any other counterfeit or knock off on the market at the moment that has the potential to do damage to the collecting community as a whole.

Cara, in 20-30yrs. These will be worth much more than they are today and anyone with internet access will know exactly what they are. And anyone willing to put thousands down on one thinking they are some rare authentic us mint coin should have internet access and the ability to know what they're buying quite easily. There is no problem with dans overstrikes. He a numismatic artist of the highest caliber. His work is already worth a great deal and will only grow in value over the decades. Buyers of them are anything but fools. They are a great investment especially if purchased directly for issue price. Take his 64d Peace dollar, those were around $125 at issue. Now they trade in the $500+ range. These 64d morgans are available for $115 and already sell on ebay in the $200-300 range

Yes they are coins trout. They are altered genuine US mint coinage. Is not a hobo nickel still a nickel? I agree though that he walks a fine line but all artists worth their salt in their respective fields do.
