As an owner of the last (original) penny set, I can't help but wonder if the new set will affect the collectibility of it. The price puts the new set far out my reach. I'll stick with the original.

Lower mintage, more silver, higher price, 1st penny set since 2012. I think I like the new set better.

Quote: When the penny ended in 2012, people speculated it would not be the last we saw of the penny. Those people are right. It was really not the "Farewell to the Penny" as they hyped. So we now have a five year anniversary set. Will we have a 10 year anniversary of the penny next? The 15th? 20th?
How long are they going to recycle the penny? Will we next have a gold plated 5 oz penny next. they always recycled. They release 50 cent rolls almost every year.

Quote: I wish they used a different Queen on the Last Penny.
Yes they might have been wiser to use the Dora dePedry Hunt portrait rather than duplicating the Machin portrait. Not only would this have made for an attractive coin, it would differentiate from the Farewell set with the Susanna Blunt portrait albeit increasing production costs. Another suggestion for this set would have been to start with Victoria and end with Machin and Hunt portraits to not only pay tribute to HM long reign but also tie it in with the sesquicentennial. Doesn't seem that officials spend too much effort consulting collectors who buy these products. That said, it's still an interesting date set that should sell out very quickly.

Thanks New. I have to chuckle - the Polar Bear, Loon and Maple leaf - the three most perpetually overdone themes by RCM all together in one set, why not? The 35th anniversary of trivial pursuit might be a popular Xmas gift item.

@wildflowerAB I am going to subscribe to the Canadiana Kaleidoscope series because it does look as if you are looking through a kaleidoscope and the RCM states that these are the thinnest silver coins ever by them measuring 60mm across. Also, I am one of those people that like coloured coins and the blues on the polar bear coin are truly remarkable. Looking forward to comments on this one. LOL The others I have listed can wait. Not sure about the Trivial Pursuit coin. Then again I am not a good predictor of what will be hot anyway. LOL :)))))) @justsilver Thank you about clarifying the percentage on the Legacy of the Nickel. LOL ON ME. @coincanuck I ordered the Legacy of the Nickel set as well. Very happy with this one.

Quote: RCM states that these are the thinnest silver coins ever by them measuring 60mm across. The 5 oz Big Coin is only slightly wider in diameter at 65mm. So a 1 ounce would be about 1/5th of the thickness. Sounds interesting. Isn't this makes unusually early for November releases?

I like the look of the penny set but I think they are several years to soon to be making this set. It's been only 5 years since the "farewell". The original series should have been called "see you later, to the penny".
Is this actually the November release or will there be more to come? It seems very early to be calling these the November release.

My 2 cents to this:
the new Penny set will be "best seller". The mintage is low. For the last years, I saw that regardless the design (but it has to be mass-appeal), low mintage coins usually sold-out.
It just friendly suggestion do not hesitate, if you really want it.....
@New1954: Thank a lot for the update regarding the release!
I didn't see "kaleidoscope" coins, but it sounds similar to "triangle art" series, even objects selected the same.

Odd, I got the email this morning with the Advance Product Notice for 6 new releases and I'm only MC Platinum with no rep. Others that I've seen comment have a rep. Anyone else like me get the notice? If these are November releases, I wonder if there will still be anything for Remembrance Day?
