I was blown away to learn that some of the biggest coin shops in the GTA have made offers to buy my 2013 silver superman coins for only 40% of trends. Does that figure sound right? I'm thinking I'd have much better luck on buy/sell sites. Does anybody know what the current value of each of the silver coins are?

This is very normal sales strategic, Redzapsid
The dealers do not buy coins to collect, but to resell. They need to have some margin, and if it small and it only few coins - no one will be interested.
Specifically these coins not "hot" anymore and not really popular. They were, but since long time passed, people who needed them - got them, people who still searching - hunting for bargain.
According latest CA sale - they offered "Metropolis" and "Man of Steel" for issue + CAD 10. So I believe, you would find private buyers for same price.
Added: when I (rarely though) sell some coins to free space or gain budget for something realy desired (as it was with Big 50 cents), I happy if coins sold for 50%-60% from issue. (surprisingly, the 2009 Summer Moon Mask sold good due to last minute bidding war).

Quote: Does anybody know what the current value of each of the silver coins are? Do a search on ebay of "Sold" listings for each of the coins you are considering selling; such a search should tell you all you need to know regarding what collectors are willing to pay for them.

It is sad to find out numismatic coin's value when plan to sell to coin shops or dealers. Dealers in Vancouver area usually offer 50% of RCM's issue price on coins that they are able to sell and even refuse to buy some unpopular coins. Dealers want coins that can bring them quick and easy $$ ( newest hot coins ), not coins stuck in coin shop forever.

If the 2013 supermans can't fetch issue price, it's time to find a new hobby.

If you believe this Quote: If the 2013 supermans can't fetch issue price, it's time to find a new hobby. You're really going to hate to be in this hobby in 10 and 15 years.... I'm the youngest guy in my coin club (at 40 yrs old) by a margin of at least 20 years! There isn't exactly another generation with the numbers in this hobby that will carry the torch so MANY MANY coins will not only depreciate over the cost of inflation or just outright depreciate in value. There's many hobbies out there, most cost the individual a lot of money and don't make the user any money. This hobby is a bit different that way but may not be for too much longer.

That's why I'm starting to sell my collection. By the way, Agcoinau, you've got several years on me. When I go to shows, I don't get taken seriously until I show some coins I'm trying to unload.

Why don't people learn by buying modern TAT you will be burnt on resale. If you want to collect modern issues fine.As a collector item they are nice but as any kind of investment you can forget it.

Coin shops (IMO) are a last resource to sell your collection as noted by others. ebay, after expenses, and the time to package and ship, is a better choice if you don't auction them off (use BIN). My preference is Kijiji. It's like fishing. Post your sale and wait for a bite. I've been happy with my overall results but you need to be patient. It's not for those that need/ want to sell in the short term.

40% for the 2013 Silver Superman coins seems about right. If it was the gold 2013 Gold Superman I would ask for 2x issue price or around $1500. Most coin stores won't even buy NCLT unless it was a hot coin like the ladybug glass coin, the 2013 Superman, the Pysanka, or the gold Star Trek Delta. They are stack full of unsold coins from decades ago to recent. The other day I was in the RCM Boutique and it was a dead as a doornail. There was only 1 other person in the store he was even not buying coins but talking current affairs with the clerk. And the store was stacked with plenty of unsold coins. As for selling on ebay, I have to discount some coins 40-50% off issue price before anyone is interested. Otherwise they will sit there forever. Speaking of overproduction, not only is the RCM doing monthly releases they are now doing mid-month releases! Who can keep track of what is out there when they keep rolling out so many coins.

The reality is that the RCM issues so many items per year, nobody buys them all. People buy a select few at most. Therefore the demand for any given item is low, and as was mentioned many dealers are reluctant to tie up money in slow selling products.

Yes. Each year more and more NCLT is added to the existing pile, it's already much larger than five years ago when RCM began monthly releases. It's impossible for there suddenly to be enough future collectors to create any sort of demand for it considering the emphasis will always be on what's new and exciting. How many today are interested in buying masses of old NCLT at anything above bullion? Tomorrow will be no different.

Right now on ebay there are over 600 listings for Superman coins. I usually go through these every day or so looking for counterfeits and have noticed that any listed above issue price have been sitting there for months. The few that do sell are ones that the price has been reduced to below issue. The market for these seems to have dried up somewhat. Not being a collector of NCLT coins, I'm guessing anyone collecting them already has one or else they have moved on to another series such as Star Wars.

onecad: I haven't sold any coins on facebook but I've wanted to start showing my collection.. hence my facebook tag at the bottom of my posts..
Redzapid: I'm sorry you feel that way. In my opinion it's not the quality or quantity of coins that interest me when talking about coins... it's the quality of the person I'm talking with. I don't care if someone is 7 or 77... nor do I care if I'm talking about a $1 or a $1000 coin.... unfortunately I don't think everyone feels this way..
