here's a beautiful and intriguing doubled die. I wanted to get one on ebay that was an MS-67 but our local nickel dollar expert scooped that up pretty quick. what you're seeing there is a part of the tree. i'll let more knowledgeable people explain this error. I just picked this beauty up on ebay, these aren't my favourite coins and I didn't really need this for my collection but it's scarce and cool enough that I took the plunge and bought it. these are the sellers images but modified by me a bit. I like this variety and you don't see them a lot so here she is, my latest purchase. Feel free to call me Will.

thanks SPP, thanks for that link too! it looks like the coin I bought belonged ti Chadscoins as it's the same cert that he posted...plus it looks like he has the same ebay name lol. now that I realize that I gotta say thanks to Chadscoins as he was wonderful to deal with.

@Alan, i'll try my best. it is a tough one to understand. Ken Potter had an article about it somewhere that I remember seeing but I couldn't find it...anyone know where that is?

This is a pic from Ken Potters web page and he did a great job on describing this very nice variety. He claims its the bottom branch of the spruce tree, double died above the canoe. Yes these are a needle in a hay stack to find and my resources have dried up.

@SPP-Ottawa do you have any info as to rarity or population of this variety? obviously it's scarce at least but the more info the merrier. thanks

There will never be an accurate population report on these due to the attribution from ICCS. If you look at SPP CERT it only says NBU [ no double die or Charlton number] and your cert says Doubled 1978. I guess its all about the coin not the holder! These 2 I sent in are the only ones I know of getting certified so far,I watched ebay for 10 years and there were none. I found 5 sets only in 15 years of looking and the other 3 sets are still intact-ed owned by members on this form. Not sure of who has extra sets in eastern Canada in the past. I would rank them the same in population with a #3 1974 double yoke.
