I just got this 1910 Greek drachma, a coin I've been looking for for a long time. This one was a good price but areas on both sides are fairly flat, particularly the hair on the obverse. There are really no signs of wear at all, on either side, and I am thinking this is just a weak strike. As far as I can tell, the flat hair areas are not a different color at all from the rest of the coin, and they seem to have full luster.

What would you grade this one? Do you think I'm right about the weak strike?

I should say, too, that many of this type sold by HA, TPG certified as MS, seem to have flatter areas on the obverse hair in the same places mine does. But, mine would by the flattest example.

Rub on raised hair above ear on obverse, also on shoulder and shield of reverse. A solid AU-55 and doesn't appear to have been cleaned, even though it has a lot of luster left. Nice.

I hear you, Moxking, about the lack of detail in those areas. That's basically the point of my writing in to the forum. It looks to me that the lack of detail is due to the strike, and that seems to be somewhat common with these coins from what I saw on Heritage. I'm not that good at distinguishing. So, I see those areas with little detail, but there is no sign of wear at all on the coin. Those areas still have what seems to be full luster. Maybe this can't be seen one way or the other in these photos.
