I recently picked this up: 142182109510

I was wondering if y'all knew if this is proof.

It does have reflective surfaces and what to be a strong strike. But looks circulated and may have been cleaned. Seller's pic.

It certainly looks Prooflike to me. What is the obverse like?

Richard Lobel in his Coincraft catalogue says that what really distinguishes the proof 1887 coins from the circulation strikes is that the edge milling is sharper on the proofs and can almost cut the fingers! He also says that the milling on the proofs goes straight across whereas on circulation coins it has a concave / convex profile.

Prooflike but I think it's a normal circulation coin. On the proofs I've owned, the lower pearl of the earring was almost separated from the upper pearl by the depth of strike, if that makes sense.

I definitely don't want to exhibit confirmational bias here, but the rim does appear to run across the edge of the coin. Unfortunately, this is a seller pic of which there is only one.

@alganbagerap I'm not sure what the earring means

What do you guys think the grade is and what are the chances this coin is cleaned?

I would say not a proof as the rim doesn't look wide enough, attached is a proof
