While doing some business at a bank I am not a normal customer of I asked for whatever penny rolls I could get. As a small suburban branch they offered me $10.00 of shotgun rolls, pretty much cleaning them out. It was 20 minutes to closing on the day before Thanksgiving so they didn't mind. (They didn't have any Half rolls or loosies, nor any
SBA or Ikes and I didn't ask for nickels as I was short on cash).
I figured this was a nice even number (1000) of coins to run through quickly and do a numerical study. It turns out that I found 174 keepers for a kill ratio of 17.4%. This is pretty much in line with recent boxes of pennies based on my keeper list.
Here are the totals:
3 Canadians (77, 88, 05)
1 40's (47D, looks cleaned)
6 50's (51, 53, 57, 58 and 2 59's, all "D")
28 60's (including 2 69S)
79 70's (including 1 each 70S, 71S, 72S and 73S)
45 80's copper
6 82 Zinc
6 2009D (5 cabin, 1 Log)
The rest were all 1983-2016 Zincoln's.
All in all a pretty darn near average hunt with nothing really special. I added a bit over $8 to my change jar for CoinStar to add to my iTunes account and half a pound to my copper hoard.
Since I am at the fringes of suburbia getting boxes without ordering is difficult so I take what I can get...
