I have a 1925 Peace dollar certified as MS-63 by Hallmark, the short-lived grading service founded by Q. David Bowers. Do the Hallmark slabs bring any kind of premium based on rarity or curiosity value?

A little. You might be able to get a few $. There is a 1938D Buff for sale on ebay right now, it's probably a 29 or $30 coin, he wants $40 BIN. Of course, it hasn't sold either - $20 is probably the most premium I've paid (non sample that is).

Old holders have value, mostly in the expectation that today's grading is much looser and yesterdays MS63 is todays 64 or even 65. Retail price approx. 38$ vs. 131$ (63 vs 65).

The down side is that a lot of older holders are well picked over and the obvious upgrades already cracked out. Plus the standards for cleaning and the ability to identify cleaned coins has matured.

So it's a bit of a gamble... For your $30-40 in grading costs, you could up the value $100 or down it $10...
