Hey all, for some reason I like those terrible emperors and surprisingly walked away with this for what I feel was a great price. I think I have it pegged to a RIC 351 Obverse is IMP NERO CAESAR AVG GERM and is fully legible Should I leave the green patina on it, or attempt to clean? It has great detail as is, just hard to get a good pic of how it really looks in hand. side note, not sure why my first pic through the optimizer is always a big larger than the rest. Oh well. Yours looks fine to me. The coin has nice detail I would not try and remove the green patina.

The patina looks good, but I do have reservations about the raised "rim" above the letters "CAES". Could be nothing, but I don't recall seeing that before in an early bronze.

There certainly are a lot of similar looking coins on the fake reports, described as coming from "modern dies (and) artificially aged and patinated." Lettering details of both obverses and reverses certainly do bear resemblance to the OP coin, unfortunately. For comparison, here are just a handful of the documented fakes, with the OP coin at top.

Interesting match here. Top pic shows the OP obverse above the documented fake obverse. Could this be the same coin re-patinated and reentered on the market?

Quote: Could this be the same coin re-patinated and reentered on the market? Wow, sure looks that way! I remember the original "bearded Nero" thread; now I'm seriously thinking that maybe I will never get any Nero coins ever (I would have definitely bought the bottom left coin in the comparison pic if it was cheap enough - didn't see any beard on it).
