I've had this piece for a while and not really done anything with it. As you can see from the picture, the coin itself is contained inside something, which I presume allowed you to attach it to a chain and use it as a necklace.

But I simply don't know anything about the coin. It may be difficult to see, but around the coin it reads "VICTORIA * DEI * GRA * BRITT * REGINA * FID * DEF * IND * IMP", which from reseach suggests it is a late 1800's to early 1900's piece. Could any of you tell me anything else about it? Thank you!

If the legend is right, and Numista is correct, it is probably either British, a sovereign (or half sovereign), or both, and dated between 1893 and 1901. (Numista shows only one type with this legend that is not one of those - a relatively uncommon East Africa coin.)

Chances are, it's some kind of sovereign (or, again, half sovereign). Can be a replica though.

The picture is missing, so can't say any more, sorry

My mistake, here are some links to pictures of it

Since it is encased in something, I can't get any pictures of the reverse of the coin, sadly.

The portrait is pretty much the same as used on British issues and sovereigns, but is placed differently (the normal version would have had the bust intruding between DEF and IND).

It might not be a coin at all; if so, sorry. Or it might be something else entirely.

As it is a veiled head Vickie it will be between 1895-1901.However without a reverse image/weight (FYI a half sov will have a dia of 19.5mm and a full one 22.05mm.There were many jewellery pieces made up at this time. The value of any mounted piece will be bullion.
