What is the best DPI to use when scanning coins. I have tried using 2400 which creates a very large and detailed image which I then downsize. What DPI do you professional scanners out there use?
There's no need to go over 600dpi. Almost every way you might want to reproduce the pic (web, print) won't go over 300dpi anyways. Funny story - when I got my current scanner, I decided to push it and scan a Morgan at 9600dpi. I pulled the resulting image into Photoshop, and it took my computer (2.2Ghz, 2GB RAM) 45 minutes to open it.
