Coin World - While some government mints around the world strike and issue coins for other than the year struck on the coin, such is not the case with modern coin production in the United States.

I recall the Marshals Service "early release" getting press coverage but it wasn't a big deal.

Here's the language in the authorizing legislation (Public Law 112-104) that Mr. Gilkes referenced:

Section 5: COMMENCEMENT OF ISSUANCE.

The Secretary may issue coins, to the public, minted under this Act beginning on or after January 1, 2015, except for a limited number to be issued prior to such date to the Director of the United States Marshals Service and employees of the Service for display and presentation during the 225th Anniversary celebration.

The 2015-dated coins were made available to the employees as part of an anniversary event on September 24, 2014.
