They are very clean for the amount of wear, which is suspicious.

On the sixpence especially, I can see lines above and below the reverse legend separating cleaned/polished from uncleaned between the letters. Also, they seem from the pics to be very dead with almost no lustre at all.

I'm going to guess (almost a complete guess) that both are F-VF Details Cleaned?

Whose grading standards do you want, US or non-US?
US standards would probably grade them Fine.
Non-US standards would probably grade them VG.
Rest in Peace

with Kanga on the grades, but these look very dull and may have had several dippings, or a very long dip, either of which has eaten away so much of the surface metal that they appear very dull and lifeless.

Probably hard coins to resell, if you ever intend to do so.

I don't feel bad. I got both of them for dirt cheap, so I am not complaining. You definitely proved my suspicions about why they looked so dull. Thank you guys for the input.

Lots of Wear and dipped for certain But all is not lost.
The pre decimal NZ coins have great designs on them and as you didn't pay too much for these then NO real harm done.
Try and see if you can get the 1/2d, 1d, 3d 1s and the half crown for the same sort of prices and you will have a circulated type set of NZ pre decimals with great designs at a bargain price
