Got The US Redbook, What For World Coins?

My question is about world coins as I have a good amount of them. Is there a good beginning reference for World Coins that includes ID, composition and general value? I saw the RedBook Modern World guide and from other posts have seen the Krause Catalogues recommended (but they're a little pricey compared to the $15 World RedBook). Thoughts and/or suggestions? scopru Pillar of the Community United States 5029 Posts	Posted 12/21/2016 08:35 am Get a used Krause that is not necessarily the most current one. Those can be had very cheaply. The composition, mintage, size, weight, etc will be the same in the new book and the older book for the coins listed. As for values - I would suggest not using the book (any reference) to value your coins. Those are high and well out of date by the time the material is published and made it to the bookshelf. Try using sold searches on various auction companies to determine a more accurate value (as well as trend) on a coin. However, you also mention you like the layout of the RedBook, and that also is important. Get the one you are comfortable with otherwise you may find frustration in using a particular book and then feel the need to buy another. Report this Post to the Staff
moxking Rest in Peace United States 17900 Posts	Posted 12/21/2016 2:47 pm A used Krause world coins is the best bet if you don't want to spend too much. Almost all coin shops will have some old ones and they are usually very happy to sell them for $10-$20. Note that if you are having one shipped to you, the cost of postage can be more than a used book would cost. Also be sure to get the dates for the catalog you are looking for, because Krause has issued guides for specific periods, such as 1701-1800, instead of for "newer" coins. To start with I found a good shape 2010 Krause for 20th-Century coins (which is the majority of what I have) for $7.39, free shipping on ebay.
